A range hood is one of the most essential appliances in a kitchen. It absorbs unpleasant odours and excess moisture. Do you remember when you last cleaned it? If you can't remember, it's a sign that it's high time to get started. How to quickly clean a range hood?

The range hood is a device found in every kitchen. Thanks to the range hood, grease does not settle on walls or furniture. All fumes gather on the filter, which requires regular cleaning.

How do you clean a filter in a range hood? Removing grease is a time-consuming task. However, there is a way that will make it much easier for you. Scrubbing won't be necessary.

Charcoal or grease? Types of filters in the range hood

Cleaning a range hood is not as simple as it may seem, as the most crucial part is inside the device — the filter. There are three types of filters — grease, charcoal, and metal. A grease filter is a piece of acrylic or nonwoven fabric. It's on it that all the grease settles. It is not suitable for cleaning. It should be replaced every few months. You can buy it in any appliance store—a sheet costs approximately CAD 7 to CAD 15.

Modern range hoods are equipped with reusable filters. Most often, these are charcoal or metal filters. This type of filter can be cleaned with water and a bit of dishwashing liquid, baking soda, or even regular cream cleaner. It's quite a time-consuming method, as plenty of grease, which is difficult to remove, deposits on the surface.

Yet, there is another, much simpler way. Just put the filter in the dishwasher. After the washing cycle, it will be as good as new. A dishwasher tablet, combined with hot water and steam, will eliminate all the impurities.

Don't have a dishwasher? No problem. Put the filter into the bathtub or a large bowl and pour boiling water. Add a package of baking soda and a tablespoon of dishwashing liquid. You can also dissolve a dishwasher tablet in this boiling water. Immerse the filter, leave it for 20-30 minutes, and wipe it with a sponge. The grease will come off without much trouble.
