Reindeer: Stalking, controversy, and record-breaking Netflix debut

"Reindeer", a series about a comedian who becomes a stalking victim, is smashing records on Netflix. The production has the chance to become one of the most popular proposals on Netflix in history, soon possibly outperforming "The Witcher" itself.

"Reindeer" tells the story of Donny Dunne (played by Richard Gadd), an aspiring comedian working as a bartender. He meets Martha (played remarkably by Jessica Gunning) at the bar, offering her a complimentary cup of tea. This gesture sparks Martha’s dangerous obsession with Donny, as she starts infringing more and more on his privacy.

The premiere of the series sparked considerable controversy. An anonymous woman claiming to be Martha's real-life inspiration is contemplating suing Netflix for defamation. Additionally, Gadd faces allegations from a transgender actress and his ex-partner, who argues that she was denied a role in the show. According to her, Gadd refused to collaborate shortly after their breakup.

Reindeer is breaking viewership records, potentially surpassing The Witcher

Since its debut on Netflix on April 11, "Reindeer" has rapidly gained popularity. Deadline reports that in just under a month since the premiere, "Reindeer" attracted about 60 million viewers. The series’ viewership grew, with an impressive 18.6 million views recorded in the last week alone - from April 29 to May 5.

"Reindeer" has ample opportunity to enter the top 10 most-viewed English-language series on Netflix. The first season of "The Witcher" holds the 10th spot with over 83 million views, making it possible for "Reindeer", starring Richard Gadd, to dethrone the series led by Henry Cavill in the coming weeks.
