Putin sees cooperation potential, urges stronger state security
During a meeting with the Federal Security Service (FSB) leadership, Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed optimism about the potential for establishing cooperation with the US administration. At the same time, he emphasized the need to enhance the protection of state borders and counter cyberattacks.
Vladimir Putin positively assessed the initial interactions with the American administration, indicating both sides' readiness to cooperate. During a Thursday meeting with the FSB leadership, the Russian leader shared his position.
The Russian president urged a pragmatic approach to international relations, emphasizing the need to move beyond outdated perspectives. He argued that previous leaders' policies had contributed to the crisis in global diplomacy and claimed that these outdated views were beginning to create divisions within the Western community itself.
Prospects for international dialogue
Putin expressed confidence in the possibility of a peaceful resolution to the conflict in Ukraine. According to the Russian leader, there is currently a "friendly attitude towards restoring interstate relations," which may favour dialogue.
The Russian president also expects challenges in discussions with the United States. He cautioned that certain Western elites would attempt to disrupt the dialogue, pointing to economic and political issues in Western nations as justification for his concerns.
Strengthening state security
The Russian leader paid particular attention to the country's security issues. He emphasized the need to introduce additional measures to protect state borders in the face of growing threats.
Putin highlighted the increasing number of cyberattacks targeting Russia. In response, he announced intensifying counterintelligence activities to safeguard the state's interests in cyberspace more effectively.
