Pope Francis visible bruises explained by Vatican
During Saturday's audiences and consistory, attention was drawn to the bruises under Pope Francis' chin. The Vatican explained the reason for them.
During Saturday's events in the Vatican, participants noticed large dark bruises and a hematoma under Pope Francis' chin and on the lower part of his face, which concerned many people.
"Consequences of an injury"
Despite the visible injuries, Pope Francis was in good shape during the morning audiences and the afternoon consistory.
Journalists who asked about the reasons for these injuries received an explanation from the Vatican press office that the bruise is a consequence of an injury yesterday morning. It was added that the Pope hit his chin on a nightstand.
On Saturday, a letter from Pope Francis was read at Notre Dame Cathedral, in which he expressed his hope that the revival of this temple "will be a prophetic sign of the renewal of the Church in France." He also expressed appreciation for the firefighters and government representatives for their determination and pointed to the great "international generosity" that contributed to the reconstruction of the cathedral.
The Pope was not present at Saturday's opening ceremony of the cathedral, rebuilt after the 2019 fire, although he will appear in France next week - on Corsica.
