Nissan is another brand facing a crisis due to global changes in the automotive market. The company has just announced significant cuts in the United States. These decisions will affect the factories in Smyrna, Tennessee, Canton, Mississippi, and Decherd.

The manufacturer announced that starting in April, it will eliminate one shift at the Smyrna plant that produces the Rogue SUV. The same will occur in Canton starting in September, when the Altima sedan will be produced.

Voluntary layoffs will accompany this decision. The brand intends to encourage employees to leave with generous severance packages. However, the exact amounts involved have not been disclosed. The Japanese newspaper "Nikkei" claims that up to 1,500 people could be affected by these layoffs.

This move is part of a larger plan announced in November 2024, in which Nissan discussed the possibility of laying off up to 9,000 people in China and North America.

The manufacturer has high hopes for improving the situation through a potential merger with Honda, which could lead to the creation of the third-largest automotive conglomerate in the world.
