New York declares emergency as snowstorm paralyzes region

- The Governor of New York State, Kathy Hochul, announced a state of emergency on Friday in several western counties due to snowfall exceeding even 180 centimetres related to the so-called lake effect. Meanwhile, warnings for low temperatures were issued for nine southern states, including Texas, Florida, and both Carolinas.
- Any potential resumption of nuclear test explosions by Russia is "an open question given the hostile policy of the USA," stated Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov.
