Silverfish are small creatures that can be quite unsettling. They feed on sugar, as well as cellulose and starch, which is why they often reside in the kitchen. They don't like light, which is why we find them in nooks and crannies. How can we get rid of these nearly invisible household inhabitants? Home remedies that don't rely on store-bought chemicals come to the rescue.

How to get rid of silverfish? Here are some reliable methods

As it turns out, silverfish dislike many scents. One of them is bay leaves. Simply crush dried leaves into a powder and sprinkle it in places where these uninvited guests might hide.

However, this is not the only method. Another scent that silverfish dislike is cloves, from which you can also prepare a "repellent" powder.

If you are concerned that herbal powders alone won't suffice, try sprinkling a bit of baking soda—be cautious with this product if you have pets, as baking soda can irritate your pet's digestive system and lead to an acid-base imbalance in their body or even cardiovascular issues.

What other scents repel silverfish? Soak cotton wool pads in vanilla, lemon, or lavender oil. Internet users recommend creating a trap by smearing honey on a piece of cardboard—the sweetness will immediately attract silverfish, which will stick to the trap.

Remember—to prevent a silverfish invasion, focus on frequent vacuuming and ventilating rooms where the temperature and humidity are higher.
