Natural remedies to heal dry, cracked elbows this winter
Many people experience dry and cracked elbows. Fortunately, there are simple and inexpensive home remedies to improve their appearance. One beneficial remedy is a mask made from natural ingredients.
We often neglect to care for our elbows, even though they are a noticeable part of our daily appearance. Over time, the skin on our elbows can become dry and cracked, which looks unappealing and can cause discomfort and pain. How can we address this issue? It's easier than it seems.
Why do elbows become dry and cracked?
Elbows are one of the areas on the body that are often prone to dryness and irritation. First, the construction of the skin in this area is unique. The skin on the elbows is thicker and less elastic, making it more susceptible to external factors like friction or pressure. Additionally, this area's lack of sufficient sebaceous glands makes the skin naturally drier.
We often struggle with dry elbows during winter when low temperatures and dry air further dehydrate the skin. The type of body washing products we use daily also matters. Many people don't realize that contact with water and soap can strip away the natural oils that protect the skin. This is why it's crucial to use high-quality, moisturizing products.
Homemade mask for dry elbows
When addressing dry and cracked elbows, we don't need to immediately turn to expensive, specialized products, which are not always the best choice. In this case, homemade remedies can be quite effective.
Mix about 75 grams of ground flaxseed in 150 millilitres of hot water to create a mask for dry elbows. When the mixture cools down, add 22 millilitres of olive oil, the juice of half a lemon, and 22 millilitres of honey.
After mixing all the ingredients, the mask should be applied to elbows that have been thoroughly cleaned of dirt, dried with a towel, and wrapped in plastic wrap. This not only enhances the mask's effects but also keeps your clothes clean. After about 25 minutes, you can remove the covering and wash everything off the skin. The treatment should be repeated at least once a week.
