Israel strikes Lebanon again
On Friday afternoon, Israeli forces carried out an airstrike on downtown Beirut. According to reports, the target was Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah.
Then, on Saturday morning, the Israeli army announced new strikes in eastern Lebanon targeting the Shia terrorist organization Hezbollah. Meanwhile, Hezbollah reported attacking northern Israel.
Why is Israel attacking Hezbollah?
Since October 2023, following the outbreak of war in the Gaza Strip, Iran-backed Hezbollah began regular shelling of northern Israel. Since Monday, Israeli air forces have carried out massive airstrikes on Lebanon.
More than 700 people have been killed in these strikes so far. Israel emphasizes that the airstrikes are aimed at Hezbollah's infrastructure and fighters, and the goal of the operation is to restore security in the north of the country. Over 60,000 people have already left the region in fear of the attacks.
