The IFL Science portal reports that a conspiracy theory about a mysterious (at first glance) find in Antarctica is being circulated on social media. Some internet users perceive it as giant "doors" that may lead to an alleged pyramid hidden in the glacier.

The aforementioned pyramid hidden in the ice of Antarctica is not a new topic. The "suspicious" structure was spotted in 2016 on Google Earth, and for some, it seemed obvious that the satellite images showed a pyramid built by humans, hidden deep in the ice, with a slightly protruding peak.

Doors to the interior of Antarctica?

Several years later, explorers of unconventional objects on Google Earth discovered what they thought were doors leading into the depths of Antarctica, according to IFL Science. These "doors" were quickly linked to the mysterious pyramid discovered a few years earlier. However, to the disappointment of conspiracy theory enthusiasts, the giant "doors" found southeast of Showa Station are something entirely different.

While some Reddit users commenting on the discovery believe it could be "an underground entrance to a base," the explanation is much simpler. In satellite images, you can see blocks of ice. Interestingly, more such objects can be seen near the "doors." Internet users searching for conspiracies thus discovered a solitary piece of ice.

It's important to clarify that the previously mentioned hidden pyramid in the glacier also turned out to be quite ordinary. German geologist Dr Mitch Darcy explained this in an interview with IFL Science. “By definition, it is a nunatak, which is simply a peak of rock sticking out above a glacier or an ice sheet,” he said. “This one has the shape of a pyramid, but that doesn’t make it a human construction," confirmed the expert, reinforcing the notion that often the simplest explanations are true.
