Migrants race against time to reach U.S. before Trump era

A caravan of migrants from Honduras, Venezuela, and other South American countries is heading toward the United States border. They are hurrying to reach their destination before January 20, the inauguration of the new U.S. President, Donald Trump. It's a race against time for them.

According to tvn24.pl, a caravan of migrants travels through Mexico to reach the U.S. as quickly as possible. Everyone knows that Trump, during his election campaign, promised to fight against migrants and mass migrations. However, they hope that if they arrive in the U.S. in time, they can stay.

- If Trump is watching us, if he is listening to us, I ask him to give us a chance. We have children with us. We left our country not because we wanted to, but because we had to. I am a nurse. I voted against Maduro and was fired, admits Xavi Yiperi, an immigrant from Venezuela.

- Trump's victory worries us on the one hand, but on the other hand, I believe he really has a heart; he has his own family. He fights for the good of his country. If he was elected, it means there must be something good in him, says Elder Hernandez, an immigrant from Honduras.

According to tvn24.pl, Trump has already talked to the President of Mexico, who supposedly promised him that migrants travelling through her country would not reach the U.S. border. The caravan is accompanied by agents from the Mexican immigration office, who are encouraging people to turn back and return home.

The "border czar" is supposed to tackle the problem

Tom Homan, whom Trump has declared the "border czar," supervises the security of U.S. borders on land, in the air, and at sea and is to fulfill the promise of mass deportation that the president-elect campaigned on. Lower-ranking officials, such as Dawn Buckingham, Texas Land Commissioner, also rush to assist him.

She proposed using approximately 500 hectares of land that Texas repurchased from owners opposed to building a border wall to establish a detention and deportation management centre for immigrants there.
