We often think of melon as a summer fruit and forget about it during the winter. This oversight is quite unjustified, as it offers many benefits that are particularly advantageous at this time of year. It helps burn fat, is high in vitamins, and is low in calories.

Melon is a fruit we tend to enjoy more often in the summer. It's commonly used in desserts and salads, but it rarely appears on our menus in the autumn or winter. This is a shame because melon has numerous benefits and is renowned for its cleansing properties.

Is it a fruit?

Melon is often mistaken for a fruit because, in reality, it is a vegetable closely related to cucumber. In terms of taste, it resembles a sweet, juicy cucumber. Melon pairs well with various salads, desserts, cakes, or cocktails. It also complements yogurt, pancakes, or oatmeal. Thus, it's worth remembering during the cooler months, as it is rich in nutrients that boost fat burning and aid in sleep improvement.

Between cucumber and watermelon

Melon is a member of the annual gourd plant family. It has been known for thousands of years in Africa, where it served as a refreshing option on hot days. The fruit's journey to other continents began in Asia and the Middle East. Its taste balances cucumber and watermelon, and its sweetness varies with the variety. Melon is a low-glycemic-index food, making it suitable for people with diabetes, though it should be consumed in limited quantities.

Supports fat burning

Melons are rich in vitamins A and B and contain beta-carotene. They also have cucurbitacins, which are known for their anti-cancer properties. With a high water content—about 90%—melon acts as a diuretic, benefiting those with kidney issues. The citrulline found in these fruits supports fat burning, and their low-calorie content—only 15 calories in 100 grams—makes them recommended for weight-loss diets. Melons also assist with sleep issues, making them a great evening snack choice. Additionally, they have a relaxing effect.
