Lithuania calls for firm NATO response to Russian hybrid threats
Lithuania's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Gabrielius Landsbergis, emphasized that "hybrid attacks are also intensifying in NATO countries." The politician said that member countries should make it "clear to Moscow" that in the event of an escalation of conflict, Moscow can expect an immediate response.
Russian hybrid warfare conducted against Western countries providing aid to Ukraine has many different dimensions and encompasses a wide range of activities and areas.
Among the most important are cyberattacks on information services, disruption of GPS signals threatening the safety of civil aviation, propaganda campaigns, sending groups of migrants to the borders of EU states, and various acts of sabotage (e.g., arson).
- Hybrid attacks are also intensifying in NATO countries - said the Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs before a meeting of EU foreign ministers in Luxembourg.
Lithuanian foreign minister: "A clear message" must be sent to Moscow
Gabrielius Landsbergis made it clear that a "clear message" must be sent to Moscow that in the event of an escalation of conflict, a decisive response will follow.
We have to be very clear what we are going to do about it, and unfortunately I don't think that we are sending the right message yet. Moscow must get a clear message that whenever they escalate they will receive an answer from our side - said the Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs in Luxembourg.
In April, the NATO Review portal assessed that "hybrid warfare seems to have become an integral part of Moscow's policy vis-à-vis the West." The Kremlin aims to influence public discourse, shake the sense of security in Western societies, create destabilization, or generally inspire a sense of threat.
