Inside the elusive family life of Elon Musk: A tangled web

Elon Musk, like many of the rich and famous, has long been the object of intense interest from the media. This fascination extends beyond his business endeavours to his personal life. The billionaire's eccentric personality shrouds many aspects of his life in mystery.

Musk has long been involved in addressing the demographic crisis on his own terms. The number of children he has remains a topic of media speculation. Bloomberg claims he has fathered twelve children, including three with singer Grimes and another three with Shivon Zilis, the head of special projects at one of his companies. Elon typically refrains from commenting on the matter.

The unique names he and Grimes have chosen for their children also attract attention. The couple's son was named X Æ A-Xii, and their other children are Exa Dark Sideræl and Techno Mechanicus, also known as Tau, as detailed in Walter Isaacson's biography. The name for the second child was reportedly changed to "Y" or "Why" or simply "?", as the artist herself mentioned.

Shivon Zilis, like Elon, chooses not to comment on the matter. Thanks to her, twins Strider and Azure were born, as well as another child whose name has not yet been publicly disclosed. The billionaire's remaining children come from his marriage to Justine Musk. In 2004, twins Griffin and Vivian were born via in vitro fertilization, and two years later, Kai, Saxon, and Damian joined the family.

This gives him eleven living children, but the media mentions twelve for a reason. In 2002, Elon and Justine's son, Nevada Alexander Musk, was born, but he passed away just 10 weeks after birth. It was reported that the billionaire mentioned that "the firstborn died in his arms," as noted by Business Insider India.

Much has been written about Musk’s relationships with his children and their mothers. As of October 2023, reports emerged that Grimes would meet him in court over custody rights for their eldest son. He also has no contact with his daughter Vivian, who has transitioned. The billionaire lamented on Jordan Peterson's podcast that he "lost a son" who was "killed by the woke virus of the mind." Vivian sees it differently:

He doesn’t know what I was like as a child because he quite simply wasn’t there, and in the little time that he was I was relentlessly harassed for my femininity and queerness. Obviously he can’t say that, so I’ve been reduced to a happy little stereotype f*g-ing along to use at his discretion. I think that says alot about how he views queer people and children in general - she pointed out extensively on the Threads platform.
