The hurricane made landfall on Wednesday evening local time. According to forecasts, Milton will maintain its strength as it moves through central Florida until Thursday morning.
Hurricane Milton officially made landfall near Siesta Key, Florida at 8:30 PM Eastern Time, informed the National Weather Service in Miami.
"As Hurricane Milton makes landfall near Sarasota county, now is the time to shelter in place. First responders are staged and ready to go, as soon as weather conditions allow. Search and rescue efforts will be well underway to save lives before dawn, and they will continue for as long as it takes," stated Florida Governor Ron DeSantis after 8 PM Eastern Time.
