How to wash towels: Achieving optimal hygiene and softness

We use towels daily, so washing them properly is very important. Regularly washing towels at the right temperature helps eliminate bacteria and microorganisms that can accumulate on the fabric. Washing them at too low a temperature can lead to colour fading and retention of unpleasant odours. So, what setting should you use to wash towels?

Recommendations for washing towels may vary depending on their colour and material. White towels are best washed at a temperature of 60°C, maintaining hygiene and the fabric's whiteness. For coloured towels, the recommended temperature is 40-60°C to preserve their vibrant colours. Always check the manufacturer's recommendations on the towel's tag, as some materials may require lower temperatures to prevent damage. Also, avoid using fabric softeners, which can make towels rough and less absorbent. Instead, you can use glycerin—adding 3 tablespoons of glycerin to the washing machine during the towel wash will make them soft and fragrant.

Choosing the right detergent is key to effectively washing towels. Special laundry liquids with added silver ions, which have disinfecting properties, are available and recommended for washing towels and bed linens. These detergents work effectively at lower temperatures, which is good for delicate materials. There are also many natural methods to maintain the softness and freshness of towels. If there are tougher stains on your towels, it's worth soaking them overnight in a solution of about 3 litres of water and 30 millilitres of glycerin.
