My friend recently shared a new addition to her diet. She drinks a glass of oat water every day. It's simply a mixture of mountain oat flakes and water. It's usually consumed on an empty stomach but can replace regular water throughout the day. This unassuming liquid boasts incredible properties.
Oat water
Oats are well known for their valuable nutritional and health benefits, so we include them in our diet as traditional oatmeal and as a key ingredient in a delicious and healthy drink - oat water.
Oat water is easy to make, nutrient-rich, and offers numerous health benefits. It is a good source of minerals like iron, magnesium, potassium, phosphorus, calcium, and silicon. It also provides B vitamins and dietary fibre, which support intestinal function and improve digestion.
Preparing this drink is straightforward:
Ingredients:
- 1 cup mountain oat flakes,
- 32 cups of water.
How to prepare:
- Pour one cup of water over the flakes and blend.
- Add the remaining water to the blended flakes.
- Thoroughly mix the mixture and pour it into a sealable jar or bottle.
- Store the prepared oat water in the refrigerator and keep it there until the next day.
Optionally, you can strain the oat water before consumption to remove the flakes from the liquid. After blending, add spices like vanilla or cinnamon to enhance the flavour.
Why should you drink oat water?
One of the primary benefits of oat water is its impact on the digestive system. Dietary fibre helps regulate it, eases digestion, and reduces the risk of intestinal diseases. Additionally, it creates a sense of fullness for a more extended period, preventing snacking and aiding in diet adherence. Oat water can also alleviate symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux disease and may even improve sleep quality. Its antioxidants protect cells from damage, making oat water a natural elixir of youth.
Oat water is also an excellent choice for diabetics. It supplies the body with slowly metabolized carbohydrates, avoiding dramatic spikes in blood sugar levels. To further lower the glycemic index, it's advisable to prepare oat water a day in advance.
However, it's important to remember that oat water is only one part of a healthy and balanced diet. It can aid in weight loss and eliminating unnecessary pounds, but it won't magically remove belly fat without personal commitment.
