France proposes European arms reserves to bolster Ukraine
The French Defence Minister Sébastien Lecornu stated that one of the security guarantees for Ukraine could be the creation of arms reserves in Europe.
- This is an idea that we intend to propose to European countries - Lecornu said in a conversation with France Info radio.
Lecornu emphasized that the weapons reserves could be quickly delivered to Ukraine if necessary, which would deter Russia from resuming the conflict. - This is a way of deterrence if the war were to start again - because we have several months of ammunition reserves - the minister explained.
The minister also noted that the best security guarantee for Ukraine is its own army. -The point of the current discussions is to ensure that the Ukrainian army can continue to defend itself, not only now but also when the guns fall silent - added Lecornu.
Discussions on resources
Lecornu also revealed that France, alongside the United States, has been in talks with Ukraine since October about access to certain Ukrainian resources.
He assured that it is not about compensation for aid to Ukraine but about diversifying the sources of these resources, which may be needed in the future for French weapons systems.
