Doug "Censor" Martin is one of history's most well-known and decorated professional "Call of Duty" players. The 30-year-old decided to end his 13-year e-sports career in January this year. At that time, he had a plan to make history in a completely different way.
Doug Martin "Censor" broke the Guinness world record
On September 8, Martin broke the Guinness world record for the number of pull-ups completed in 24 hours. He managed to achieve this in "just" 19 hours. He completed 9,250 pull-ups. Until now, the record was held by Japanese national Kenta Adachi, who performed 8,940 pull-ups in 24 hours in April 2024. For some time, Censor worked with Australian Jaxon Italiano, training to break the record set by Adachi.
The record-breaking attempt was streamed on the platform X. During it, Martin conducted a charity fundraiser for Project Purple, a foundation that funds pancreatic cancer research and supports patients affected by this cancer. Censor completed over 300 more pull-ups than the previous record. He had time for it, and the "buffer" he created may make it difficult for others to break his achievement.
He showed a photo of his hands after more than 9,000 pull-ups
It was an intense challenge. Censor regularly appeared on camera in a flood of tears, expressing his frustration during the training. His hands were regularly worn down by the pull-up bar, and his body suffered with every new milestone. In a post on platform X, Martin showed his hands after breaking the record. They looked really bad, with swollen fingers, subcutaneous bleeding, blisters, and torn skin.
Martin approached his professional "Call of Duty" career with similar intensity before. During his over a decade in e-sports, he achieved, among other things, the highest place at the MLG National Championship in 2011 and contributed to developing the "Call of Duty" scene. Fans of Censor are inquisitive about the next challenges he will set for himself after achieving the Guinness world record.
