Fire in Bangkok hotel claims lives of foreign tourists
A devastating fire in a hotel in Thailand's capital claimed the lives of three foreign tourists and left several others injured. The incident has caused widespread fear, with concerns that it may affect upcoming New Year's Eve celebrations, according to Sanga Ruangwattanakul, the Khao San Road Business Association president.
The fire broke out on Sunday, December 29, at the Ember Hotel near Khao San Road in Bangkok.

The fire erupted on the fifth floor of a six-story building on the popular Khao San Road. Tourists from various parts of the world often stay in this accommodation facility, which had 75 people at the time the fire started.
According to local police colonel Sanong Saengmanee, all three individuals who lost their lives in the fire on Sunday evening were foreign tourists. One victim was discovered at the scene, while the other two succumbed to their injuries after being taken to the hospital. The nationalities of the deceased have not yet been revealed.

In addition to the three fatalities, local media also report seven people were injured. Among them are five foreign tourists and two Thai citizens.
The fire was eventually extinguished, but the causes are unknown. Authorities are investigating the matter. Additionally, local officials urge caution during New Year's holidays and New Year's Eve celebrations, especially when using firecrackers, fireworks, and similar items.
Sanga Ruangwattanakul, president of the Khao San Road Business Association, arrived at the scene with the association that promotes the street and the region and ensures safety. "Now everybody’s scared about what happened and they’re scared it will affect the event tomorrow. But definitely there’s no worry because we already had a meeting with the police station and we have over 150 police and district staff to cover on Khao San Road for security," he said, quoted by the Evening Standard.
