Fire engulfs Seongnam high-rise, dozens evacuated safely
Several people were trapped due to a fire in a building in the city of Seongnam, South Korea, reported YTN television. The footage they released shows dark smoke engulfing a multi-storey building and a fire on the lower floors.
Reports about the fire came in before 5:00 PM local time. The fire likely started in a restaurant kitchen on the first floor of an eight-storey high-rise.
Forty-one fire brigades were dispatched to the scene. The fire was brought under control after a 40-minute operation.
There is no information about any casualties. Approximately 50 people managed to escape the high-rise, and firefighters evacuated another 40. Currently, services are checking if anyone might be trapped in the building.
Seongnam, with a population of about one million, is located in Gyeonggi Province in the northern part of the country.
