Finland's readiness amid Russian intimidation and global unrest
The Prime Minister of Finland, Petteri Orpo, believes that concerns about his country's involvement in war are genuine. However, he is convinced that his fellow citizens are prepared for such a scenario.
Orpo gave an interview to the public broadcaster Yle. When asked whether he fears Finland will join the war, he replied: "Yes, I am afraid. That means let's omit the word 'fear,' but colleagues often ask me about it abroad, and I respond that we are not afraid, but we are ready for the worst."
The Prime Minister of Finland reminded that their neighbour, Russia, has been conducting an illegal aggressive war for three years. "Therefore, we should be concerned. We are being intimidated, but we are not afraid, and the wise are preparing. This is a lesson that Finland has learned from history," he added.
He emphasized that the most troubling are the active conflicts around the world, such as the war in Ukraine and the situation in the Middle East, as well as various hybrid operations observed recently in the Baltic Sea.
Previously, the Prime Minister of Finland stressed the extreme importance of the international community continuing to support Ukraine in its fight against Russian aggression.
Finnish intelligence services also warned that Russia has intensified spying activities against the country.
