How to manage your daily menu during the early, cooler days? As we move away from the light meals of summer, we often crave hearty and warming dishes. The absolute best recipe for this time of year is oatmeal with hot toppings.

Oatmeal for breakfast is an excellent choice. If you're looking to diversify this dish, you must try the recipe for fall oatmeal with a warming ingredient. Nothing like this will wake you up in the morning (perhaps only coffee). While oatmeal prepared this way could be eaten daily, it’s fair to admit it tastes especially delicious at this time of year.

How to make oatmeal

You can prepare oatmeal with either water or milk. For a more hearty breakfast, oatmeal with milk is even creamier. Simply bring the liquid to a boil, add the oats (in a 1:2 ratio), and cook on medium heat for about 10 minutes. Stir occasionally to prevent it from sticking. A pot with a thicker bottom and a non-stick coating works best for cooking oatmeal.

Toppings for oatmeal

My trick for delicious, hot, yet not mushy toppings for oatmeal is caramelized fruit. Apples and bananas work perfectly. Heat a tablespoon of clarified butter in a pan. Add a chopped apple (you can leave the skin on) and banana halves sliced lengthwise (if it's more convenient, you can also chop them into pieces). After a while, sprinkle them with brown sugar (to taste, about 3-4 tablespoons if you prefer sweeter toppings) and cinnamon or spices to taste. Flip to the other side and fry a bit longer. Serve hot.

Why is it worth eating oatmeal?

Oat flakes are a treasure trove of nutrients. They contain large amounts of fibre, which is invaluable for properly functioning the digestive system. Thanks to beta-glucan, oatmeal helps lower cholesterol levels and stabilize blood sugar levels. Oat flakes are also rich in B vitamins, vitamin E, and minerals such as magnesium, phosphorus, iron, and zinc. Regular consumption of oatmeal contributes to better digestion, strengthens immunity, and helps maintain a healthy weight.
