Energy balls: A guilt-free indulgence for all ages

Can a tasty dessert be healthy? It sure can, and I'm not just talking about a plate of fresh fruit. The culinary masterpiece I'm about to introduce you to is the result of combining oats, cocoa, and a few other ingredients, with calorie content you don’t need to worry about!

Energy balls are popular with everyone who enjoys "fit" food. Today, this fancy snack often serves as a dessert at my house, too.

How did I discover the recipe for energy balls? They initially served a different purpose—as a snack for kids to tuck into their lunch boxes. In this role, the balls also shine bright. Their ingredients—oats, cocoa, nuts, and dates—provide energy, uplift mood, and replace the sugar—and palm oil-loaded colourful treats from supermarkets that our unsuspecting children often munch on.

I transform the oats and other ingredients into a tasty dessert in just a few moments. The whole family loved this treat so much that now energy balls make an appearance during our holiday gatherings. Below, I share the simplest recipe for this wonder. Best of luck!

Energy balls – a simple oat dessert

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups of regular oats,
  • 1 cup of dried dates,
  • 1 cup of mixed nuts,
  • 1 tablespoon of cocoa,
  • a pinch of nutmeg,
  • a pinch of ginger,
  • a pinch of cinnamon,
  • Additionally: coconut flakes.

Preparation:

  1. First, I soak the dates. I pour boiling water over them and let them sit for an hour. Then, I blend them using a blender.
  2. I crush the nuts and oats the same way. I place all ingredients in one bowl. I add cocoa, a bit of nutmeg, ground ginger, and cinnamon—everything to taste since this dish can be adjusted as you go.
  3. Finally, I form balls from the prepared mixture and roll them in coconut flakes.
  4. I place them on a plate and put them in the fridge—this dessert, in my opinion, tastes best when it's cold. Enjoy!
