The holiday season is perfect for trips and relaxation away from home, often necessitating the rental of rooms in hotels or apartments. Everyone expects to spend time in peace and safety. However, some may be unaware of potential risks, such as the presence of hidden cameras. Here's how you can identify them.

Hidden cameras - Where to look for them?

No one wants to be recorded without their consent. Those who install such cameras know this, so they are not visible at first glance. With modern technology and miniaturization, the possibilities for hiding them are practically limitless.

A video on TikTok recently showed a hidden camera installed in a smoke detector, providing an excellent view of the room or bathroom. This isn't the only place a camera can be placed. They can be hidden in clocks, outlets, light fixtures, hangers, toys, or air fresheners.

How to find a hidden camera in a hotel?

Finding a hidden camera is not easy. The small size of these devices and the creativity of those installing them make them difficult to locate. It's important to be vigilant. Carefully examine the room; if in doubt, cover or move suspicious items. You can also use the LAPD app (Laser-Assisted Photography Detection), which, thanks to ToF (Time of Flight) sensors, can locate hidden cameras by reflecting laser light. This tool is available on some smartphones.

Although hidden cameras are a rare issue, no reputable hotel would risk a scandal. Staying cautious during your stay in new places can help avoid unwanted situations and ensure your privacy.
