Cottage cheese rolls: A quick, protein-rich breakfast delight

Beloved by dietitians and athletes, cottage cheese is a common breakfast ingredient not only for physically active people. You usually put it on a sandwich or eat it as a snack, for example, with honey and dried fruit. It tastes great in both savoury and sweet versions. Cottage cheese can also serve as the base for preparing delicious breakfast rolls.

Dreaming of fresh rolls straight from the oven? Contrary to what one might think, it's much simpler to make them at home. You can knead the cottage cheese dough in 5 minutes, and after 20 minutes, you'll take out delicious and soft rolls from the oven. This bread not only tastes great but is also healthy.

Cottage cheese – for whom is it a high-protein product?

Cottage cheese is a product that enjoys great popularity both among athletes and people who care about a healthy diet. Thanks to its high protein content, it is an ideal choice for physically active individuals who need building materials for muscle regeneration.

It also works perfectly in the diet of older people and children, providing them with essential amino acids for growth and tissue repair. Cottage cheese is also easy to digest, making it a suitable product for anyone seeking easily absorbable sources of protein in everyday life.

Other valuable ingredients in the rolls

Flaxseed is another valuable ingredient enriching these rolls. The seeds are a rich source of fibre, omega-3 fatty acids, and lignans. Fibre supports the proper functioning of the digestive system, helping to regulate digestion. On the other hand, omega-3 fatty acids are essential for heart and brain health. Their regular consumption can contribute to reducing inflammation in the body.

Finally, the lignans found in flaxseed exhibit antioxidant properties, helping protect cells from oxidative stress. Adding flaxseed to the rolls makes them not only tasty but also health-promoting.

How to make cottage cheese rolls?

I found the recipe from Kamila, who runs an Instagram profile called @soo.good.food. The given proportions yield 4 breakfast rolls.

Ingredients:

  • 200 g cottage cheese,
  • 20 g oil,
  • 1 egg,
  • half a teaspoon of salt,
  • 1 teaspoon of baking soda,
  • 200 g flour,
  • 20 g flaxseed.

Instructions:

  1. Transfer the cottage cheese, oil, and egg into a blender cup. Blend into a consistent mass.
  2. Transfer to a bowl. Add flour, baking soda, flaxseed, and a large pinch of salt. Knead the dough by hand and divide into 4 parts.
  3. Form balls and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  4. Place in an oven preheated to 175 degrees Celsius for 20 minutes (Eastern Time).
