Celebrity jet emissions: Trump leads 2024 CO2 rankings

The end of 2024 is approaching, and it's time for big summaries and rankings. Online, a list has emerged featuring individuals who have produced the largest amounts of carbon dioxide through private jet flights. Who landed in the first place?

Carbon dioxide (CO2) is a greenhouse gas crucial for natural processes on Earth, such as photosynthesis and atmospheric temperature regulation. It is produced naturally during the respiration of living organisms and as a result of human activities, particularly the burning of fossil fuels in industry and transportation.

The increase in CO2 concentration in the atmosphere is one of the main contributors to climate change. It triggers the greenhouse effect, leading to global warming and related phenomena such as glacier melting, rising sea levels, and extreme weather conditions.

Is Taylor Swift generating huge amounts of CO2?

Taylor Swift is an American singer and songwriter known for hits such as "Shake It Off," "Bad Blood," and "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together." She mainly creates music in country, pop, and pop-rock genres.

Recently, the singer sparked controversy among eco-activists. Information surfaced online claiming that she often travels on her private jet. Naturally, her behaviour generated significant amounts of carbon dioxide. Is the artist a threat to the planet?

Which stars produced the most CO2?

Taylor Swift is not the only celebrity who uses private jets. This mode of travel is common among famous personalities. As the end of 2024 nears, the Celebrity Private Jet Tracker portal has created a detailed ranking revealing which stars produced the most carbon dioxide during airplane travels. Interestingly, the aforementioned singer ranked only 49th with a result of 870 metric tonnes. The top 10 are as follows:

  2. Travis Scott 10,400 metric tonnes
  3. Eric Schmidt 7,150 metric tonnes
  4. P. Diddy 5,155 metric tonnes
  5. Elon Musk (primary plane) 5,105 metric tonnes
  6. Bill Gates (primary plane) 4,720 metric tonnes
  7. Kim Kardashian 4,705 metric tonnes
  8. Jay Z 4,590 metric tonnes
  9. Kylie Jenner 4,170 metric tonnes
  10. Bill Gates (secondary plane) 3,810 metric tonnes
