BMW unveils stunning Skytop Concept at Villa d'Este event
The automotive elegance contest at Villa d'Este is fast approaching. BMW wouldn't be itself if it didn't prepare something special for the occasion. The Skytop Concept is a surprise with its elegant presence and open roof.
In recent years, BMW has been quite bold in styling, evident in most of the brand's new releases. Each successive premiere from Bavaria stirs more or less controversy. Meanwhile, the Germans still remember how to make elegant cars - the Skytop Concept is the best example.
Although the inspiration for it was supposedly the Z8 and 503, many will see more of the 8 Series. Nothing is wrong with that, as the eight is a beautiful car. However, the Skytop Concept outshines it.
From every angle, it looks phenomenal, perfectly blending modernity with timeless elegance. The kidney grille is large but proportional, and the narrow headlights complement it perfectly. The minimalist rear with a gently sloping trunk lid and thin LED strips looks even better. The cherry on top is, however, the roof.
BMW opted for a Targa body with a removable roof panel that can be stored in the trunk. This lightened up an interior that looks like it was taken straight from the 8 Series. The drivetrain is identical, using the same 4.4-litre V8 from the M8 Competition.
The Skytop Concept will undoubtedly be a worthy representation of BMW at the Villa d'Este, joining the brand's pantheon of exceptionally successful concept cars.
