Biden's pun raises eyebrows during California fire briefing
California is being ravaged by massive fires. The outgoing administration is monitoring the situation from the White House—President Joe Biden along with Vice President Kamala Harris. During a meeting in Washington, the President awkwardly "joked" about the situation.
"This is the most widespread, devastating fire in California's history," said Biden during a meeting with administration officials at the White House about the fires around Los Angeles. The President promised that the federal government would cover 100% of the costs of rebuilding the devastated areas. He also appealed to Congress for approval of additional funds for this purpose.
Harris surprised, Biden "joked"
The media also focused on Biden's words towards Kamala Harris, who is from California. "Madam Vice President, I know you're directly affected. So you fire away," the President said. Harris reacted with surprise.
Biden immediately noted that he did not say this intentionally. "No pun intended," he added in response to Harris's surprise.
