Beat the frost: Homemade solutions for a clear windshield
Unexpected frosts can catch drivers off guard. After carefree summer drives, the first drops in temperature remind us of the need to prepare the car for winter. Instead of rushing to the nearest station and overpaying for a ready-made windshield de-icer, you can make it yourself at home.

A frozen windshield can ruin your morning, especially when you're in a hurry. Plastic ice scrapers are gradually becoming obsolete and are being replaced by spray solutions. Just spray, wait a moment, and remove the frost with less effort. There’s no need to hunt for a ready-made product—you can make a similar solution at home.
How to quickly defrost car windows?
Scraping windows is tedious, but you can make it much easier by using an item you likely already have in your kitchen to effectively remove ice. There is no need to overpay for expensive solutions.
Mix 750 millilitres of vinegar with 250 millilitres of lukewarm water and pour it into a spray bottle. Take the prepared solution to your car. When the windshield freezes, spray it with the mixture and wait a few minutes. After that, either use an ice scraper or turn on your windshield wipers to remove the ice and frost. Thanks to the vinegar and water mixture, the ice will melt, becoming soft and easy to remove.
How does it work? Vinegar's chemical properties make it an effective ice remover. By lowering water's freezing point, it speeds up the melting of ice and frost. Additionally, it creates a protective layer on the windshield that can delay refreezing.
However, be careful not to spray the vinegar solution directly on the car body. Its acidic nature can, over time, contribute to paint damage.
Reach for pickle juice
Pickle juice can work similarly. Like vinegar, salt lowers the freezing point of water, speeding up the defrosting process. Pour the pickle juice into a spray bottle, spray the window, and wait a moment. It's an unusual trick that can save you from tedious scraping.
Head to a car wash to remove any remaining cucumber juice or vinegar when the temperature rises above freezing. This way, you'll take comprehensive care of your car.
