Baked trout: Simple steps for a flavorful, nutritious dish

Trout is a distinguished fish with incredible flavour potential. In my opinion, it doesn't need many additions, and often, simple recipes are best. This way, its flavour remains intense and undiminished, making it perfect for fish enthusiasts.

It's hard not to notice that trout is becoming increasingly available and popular. We often choose it for dinner because of its price, but also for its nutritional value. Trout is a good source of omega-3 fatty acids and protein. It also contains quite a few vitamins, especially from the B group. It's also significant that it's very easy to prepare. Trout can traditionally be fried in a pan, but it is much healthier and tastier when baked in the oven. It only takes a few additions.

How to know if the fish is fresh?

Additions really aren’t necessary because the foundation is a fresh fish. Therefore, when choosing it, it's worth paying attention to a few details. First and foremost, you should know that a slight greenish tint to the trout is completely normal and does not indicate spoilage. The skin should be shiny and covered with glistening scales.

You can also look at the gills. A healthy fish's gills should be shiny and red, never brown or sunken, nor should they be covered in slime. The eyes of the trout also guarantee freshness — in healthy, fresh fish, they will be bulging and clearly shiny.

How to prepare trout? Only a few additions are needed

When you have fresh fish, only a few additions are needed, such as dill or parsley, garlic, butter, and salt and pepper. Nothing else is needed to make trout taste excellent. Opt for a quick and very tasty oven-baked dinner.

Baked trout

Ingredients:

  • 2 trout,
  • 1 lemon,
  • 2 tablespoons of butter,
  • 2-3 cloves of garlic,
  • A few sprigs of dill or parsley,
  • Salt and pepper to taste.

Preparation method:

  1. Clean the gutted fish thoroughly under running water. Remove the scales with a sharp knife. Rinse the trout and pat them dry with a paper towel. Make a few lengthwise cuts on the surface.
  2. Then salt and pepper the fish on the outside and inside.
  3. Finely chop the dill or parsley.
  4. Wash the lemon, scald it, and cut it into slices.
  5. Add garlic, dill, or parsley to the softened butter. Mix all the ingredients and add a pinch of salt.
  6. Lightly grease a baking dish with garlic butter; add the remaining butter inside the fish. Also, add 2 slices of lemon each.
  7. Bake the trout covered in an oven preheated to 190 degrees Celsius for 30 minutes. Remove the cover at the end of baking.
