America divided: Trump's challenges amid mixed opinions
Forty-nine percent of Americans have a negative opinion of Donald Trump, while 44 percent have a positive opinion, according to the NPR/PBS News/Marist poll.
The majority of respondents (59 percent) believe that the attack on the Capitol on January 6, 2021, was aimed at overturning the election results. However, 61 percent of Republicans see it as a patriotic protest. The plan to pardon those convicted for this attack has been met with disapproval from 62 percent of those surveyed.
Controversies around immigration and the economy
The issue of immigration divides Americans. Forty-nine percent support Donald Trump's planned mass deportations, while an equal number oppose them. Among Republicans, 80 percent agree with this intention, whereas 60 percent of Democrats are against it. In terms of the economy, 59 percent of respondents do not view the current economic situation positively. Trump promotes tariffs on imported goods, but 48 percent consider this idea harmful.
Elon Musk, nominated as the head of a department for eliminating waste, is the most controversial candidate for key positions in Trump's cabinet. Thirty-seven percent of respondents support his candidacy, while 46 percent express disapproval.
Robert F. Kennedy Jr. for the head of the health department gained 40 percent support, while Marco Rubio as secretary of state only 25 percent.
The survey results indicate that Trump, despite his "unprecedented and powerful mandate," faces significant political and economic challenges.
