Albania's workforce drain sparks economic concerns
According to the latest data from the International Organization for Migration (IOM), about 40% of Albania's workforce has emigrated for a better life. Even workers with low qualifications are leaving.
The IOM report indicates that a significant portion of Albania's workforce is employed abroad, which negatively impacts the Albanian economy.
Businesses in Albania continue to face employee losses, affecting both low-skilled sectors and highly qualified professions, according to reports.
IOM experts identify widespread poverty, wage inequalities compared to other countries, corruption, and a system where job placements are not always based on merit as the main drivers of emigration.
People are fleeing Albania. The country has a serious problem
The organization emphasized that Albania and Moldova are most affected by this European problem.
Experts quoted by Euronews pointed out that the number of foreign workers registered in Albania continues to grow each year. Foreigners are expected to fill the gap caused by mass emigration. In 2024, over 13,000 were registered.
