Occasionally, I yearn for genuine culinary adventures. That's when I scout for a unique recipe (which I might enhance, modify, or personalize) and dedicate hours in the kitchen, only to face the stern judgment or disapproval of my family's critical panel. Such moments occur, but they're not the norm. At times, I adhere to the philosophy "less is more" and whip up a homemade wafer whose flavour cannot be surpassed by even the most elaborate cake after hours of baking.

The sheer delight in this tasty creation could fill volumes with many poetic descriptions and praises of its texture. However, why overcomplicate? The recipe is straightforward, the ingredients are budget-friendly, and it won't consume much of your time. Follow the recipe below to savour the fantastic taste of this caramel-butter wafer!

Caramel-Butter Homemade Wafer

Ingredients:

  • 1 large package of wafer sheets,
  • 250 grams (approximately 9 ounces) of soft butter,
  • 400 grams (about 14 ounces) of caramel filling,
  • 3 tablespoons of sour cream.

  1. Whip the warm butter until fluffy. Use a medium mixer speed. Be patient during this step. Whipping the butter is nearly all the effort required for this treat, which might take around 10 minutes.
  2. Nearing the end, start incorporating the caramel filling into the butter gradually. Once it forms a homogenous mixture, the last ingredient to add is the sour cream. Introduce it slowly, one spoonful at a time.
  3. Assemble the wafer sheets with the caramel mixture spread between them. Your creativity and preference limit the number of layers.
  4. Once assembled, wrap the wafer in plastic and chill it in the refrigerator. Place a moderately heavy object on top to ensure the layers bond well.
  5. Allow the wafer to set in the refrigerator for 3-4 hours before it's ready. Slice it and indulge confidently. Enjoy!
